As an official event supporter of the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships taking place in Glasgow from 1-3 March, SPAR Scotland is endorsing the launch by rebranding two of its delivery vehicles with bespoke livery to promote the sporting event. The vehicles will travel all over Scotland delivering essential supplies to SPAR stores in the islands in the north and down to the borders in the south.

As the biggest indoor athletics championships in the world, the 19th edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Glasgow for the first time.

In addition to introducing a bespoke new livery design to promote the event on vehicles delivering goods to SPAR stores the length and breadth of Scotland, SPAR Scotland is providing additional support by supplying products, including sandwiches, yoghurts, fruit, and nutrition bars, to help fuel the hundreds of volunteers and staff who will be working at the event over the three days, as well as providing complimentary drinks and products for the VIP areas.

SPAR Scotland has also invested heavily to support the promotion of the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships with social media, SPAR instore radio advertising, instore digital screens and point of sale, consumer competitions and PR. There will also be a fun, instore event taking place in SPAR Garthamlock on 20th February to kick off the countdown to the championships.

Paula Middleton, Head of Marketing at SPAR Scotland, said: “We have strong links with sport and athletics and are excited to be the first official event supporter for this prestigious competition. Our vehicles travel all over Scotland delivering products to SPAR stores and the new livery on two of our vehicles is a great opportunity to promote our event sponsor status. We are excited to play our part in promoting this big occasion.”

Billy Garrett, Director of Tourism, Culture and Events at Glasgow Life and joint Chair of the Local Organising Committee added: “We are delighted to welcome SPAR Scotland as our first Official Event Supporter for this prestigious event. Their strong links to athletics internationally, complemented by their extensive network of stores in Scotland, make them an ideal partner.

“We are excited about their ambition to help promote the Championships across the country, and the strong community values we share, and we look forward to working closely with them.”

There will be six sessions of action-packed sport over three days of intense competition in the Emirates Arena, with many of the best athletes in the world competing for prestigious World Indoor titles. More than 700 competitors from around 130 countries are expected to take part, competing in 26 events - 13 for men and 13 for women.

The Championships fall within the qualification period for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with athletes competing for one of the 78 medals being awarded and the opportunity to hone their preparations for the Games.

Glasgow is staging the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships five years on from hosting the hugely successful European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2019. A projected global audience of more than 100 million viewers in 150 territories will watch the Championships.

Julian Date

Julian dates are 3 digit and apply to the days of the year. As an example the 1st January is 001 and the 1st June is 152. Julian dates are typically used on fresh produce instead of sell by dates. The number on the pack allows you to check how old the goods are and also helps with stock rotation. Click HERE to download a Julian calendar.
