SPAR shines in Erskine

Residents in the town of Erskine in Scotland are benefiting from a refurbished SPAR store with an improved range of fresh foods and an expanded food-to-go offer as the store was officially relaunched by Gavin Newlands MP on Friday 24th November 2023.

Erskine is a town on the south bank of the river Clyde and is close to the Erskine Bridge which connects Renfrewshire with West Dunbartonshire and stands more than 150 feet from the river Clyde.

The 2,891sqft SPAR store has been fully refurbished and now displays new energy efficient refrigeration, new shelving, flooring, ceiling, lighting, and internal and external graphics. It’s food-to- go offering at the counter has also been expanded to include freshly prepared baguettes along with an expanded hot food offer.

Owned and operated by C J Lang & Son Ltd, the award-winning Dundee based retailer and wholesaler for SPAR in Scotland, the company owned SPAR store invited residents to attend a relaunch party to celebrate the store refit.

Shoppers were treated to a fun day with a face-painter and the iconic SPAR spinning wheel was on hand to give-away 100 goody bags and a variety of prizes including SPAR shopping vouchers. Suppliers Warburtons, Rollover, COOK, PK Foods, and Browning’s provided shoppers with tasty free product samples. In addition, there were special offers on a host of SPAR own label products and leading branded daily essential food and drink items.

SPAR Scotland is passionate about nurturing neighbourhoods and supporting the communities it serves. Three local charities were recipients of this generosity and were presented with cheque donations. Mciver Dance School who performed on the day, Erskine Arts whose choir were in attendance and Erskine Community Garden each received a £500 cheque donation.

Local MP Gavin Newlands was in attendance and formally cut the ribbon to re-open the SPAR store which employs sixteen local people and has been serving the Erskine community since 1991.

Gavin Newlands was re-elected to serve as the Member of Parliament for Paisley and Renfrewshire North in 2019. He said: “It was great honour to be invited to cut the ribbon at SPAR Erskine and officially relaunch the store. I’ve received a very warm welcome from all the team at SPAR Scotland. I am impressed with the store and the changes that have been made, and it was very interesting to hear how SPAR supports local communities around Scotland. I wish everyone in the business every success for the future.”

SPAR Erskine is located at Bargarran Shopping Precinct, Erskine, PA8 6BS and is open between 7am – 10pm Mon – Sat, and 8am – 10pm on Sunday.
